Midtown’s Home for The Holidays and Tree Stand is now officially open.
After four days of preparing the land, assembling the hardware and erecting a twelve foot Blue Spruce on the foreground of the property; the bonfire is cooking, the hot chocolate is flowing and we’re officially open for business.
Midtown’s Home for The Holidays and Tree Stand offers a variety of Christmas Trees and accessories for purchase and encourages Harrisburg residents to celebrate the Holidays together at the location, which features a traditional, 1950s-style appeal including caroling from local school choirs, free hot cocoa and a place for residents to join together and mingle during the season.
The planners said the lot will “have a very traditional, historic-city tree lot theme, akin to the good memories so often memorialized in Holiday films.”
“Midtown’s historic charm and character set the stage for just such a project,” they added. “We believe with the support of residents, who have been exceedingly active in the Midtown community this past year, this will be a welcomed and memorable event that will become a standard in Midtown for years to come.”
“And our iPod is drowning out the noise from the generator with classic holiday music from the likes of Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, The Four Seasons, Connie Francis, The Drifters, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Gene Autrey, Nat King Cole and, of course, Alvin and The Chipmunks.”
To complete the picture, the hosts plan to offer up everything from free hot cocoa (with marshmallows, of course) and the standard string-of-light bulb illumination, to the roaring fire in the fifty five gallon drum to keep the employees warm. Carolers from local schools and organizations will be featured occasionally and residents are invited to join them in singing.
Midtown’s Home for The Holidays and Tree Stand has joined forces with the Central PA Food Bank and The Salvation Army as a drop spot. Patrons may bring offerings of canned and non perishable goods in addition to new, unwrapped toys to donate to needy families this Holiday season.
Midtown’s Home for The Holidays and Tree Stand keeps the following hours:
M-F: 4PM-10PM
Sat/Sun: 10AM-10PM
Ample parking is available on site.
