The Harrisburg Mall is currently undergoing several major renovations. Upgrades include a new state of the art movie theater and Barnes and Noble bookstore which will be part of a new outdoor “street scape” design. It was also reported this week that one of the new additions to the mall would be a sports themed restaurant by game manufacturer Sega.
The Sega World Sports Grille is a new concept restaurant and entertainment center which is an extension of the company’s Gameworks division. The sports grille will feature sports themed dining. The Gameworks atmosphere is very similar to that of Dave and Busters which has locations in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The closest Gameworks to Harrisburg is in Columbus, OH.
The Coliseum, which opened earlier this year in Mechanicsburg, features two restaurants, a video arcade and a sound and video enhanced bowling alley. The Coliseum is in the process of removing their billiards area and replacing it with a “VIP skybox section”. The glass enclosed room will feature two 61-inch televisions for watching sporting events or renting to private parties. They have also rearranged and added more games downstairs. Another mini bowling alley is tucked away in what they call the “bowling suite”. Two new trivia games have been added to the upstairs arcade.

Apparently, the dismal results of the new movie theater and the continuing perception that the Mall is just a ghetto-mall along with the lack of a target audience has disuaded Sega. In addition, Feldman, the mall owners, are on the verge of declaring Chapter 11 Bankruptcy…
