HarrisburgNightlife reported a few months ago plans for a new office tower to take the place of the Tom Sawyer Diner. The final plans for this new structure were released this week and include space for a “Skybar” and restaurant to grace the rooftop of this 18-story building. It’s expected the Skybar will have excellent views of the Susquehanna River and City Island.
The office complex will also include retail on the first story and three floors of parking. 210 North Second Street will take over the entire corner of 2nd and Locust as well as the space where Tom Sawyer currently sits. The project plans to be complete by 2010.
The other proposed rooftop bar will be atop the Barto Building on the corner of North Third and State streets when it’s transformed into an upscale hotel. As reported in the Central Penn Business Journal, both hotel projects along State Street, including the Aloft Hotel planned for the corner of 2nd and State, have experienced delays. Both hotels are anticipating to open in 2009.

Dining and Nightlife

Well, barf. Just when I thought covering up a nice patch of green in the city with astroturf and an out-of-place diner were bad enough, now we’re getting another office building with what I’m sure will be a pale impersonation of The Continental in Philly. Don’t forget the great view of the parking garage!
